A native of Auburn, Alabama, Junior Scaife, also known as Desmond Scaife Jr., grew up surrounded by the music of the church and the greats of Black American music. From gospel beginnings to Berklee College of Music and as a finalist on American Idol he embodies the living spirit of soul — bridging generations through his unmistakable voice.

Raised in the gospel traditions of the American South, his early years directing choirs and mastering multiple instruments laid the foundation for a career steeped in musical depth and integrity.
A graduate of Berklee College of Music, Junior has performed with legends including Berry Gordy, Harry Belafonte, Terri Lyne Carrington, Nona Hendryx, and Debbie Sledge. As the founder of DJ & the Yams and a solo artist with Daptone’s Penrose Records, he channels gospel roots, funk grit, and pure soul energy into every performance.
Beyond the stage, Junior is a devoted educator and cultural voice — teaching across the world and inspiring new generations through music and mentorship. At Epicurus, he brings his band and his heart to Copenhagen for a residency that celebrates the soul of America and the power of love.
